    DESCRIPTION

‘Columbia Giant’ is an impressive thornless trailing blackberry. It produces exceptionally large, elongated berries—often up to 2 inches long—with firm texture, glossy deep purple-black skin, and rich, sweet flavor. Berries ripen in early to mid-summer and are ideal for fresh eating, baking, or freezing.

This vigorous trailing cane variety requires trellising and plenty of space, typically spreading 5 to 6 feet tall and 6 to 8 feet wide with support. It’s a prolific producer and shows strong resistance to common blackberry diseases. Developed by Oregon State University, ‘Columbia Giant’ is best suited for USDA Zones 6–9 and thrives in full sun with fertile, well-drained soil. While self-fertile, improved yields can result from planting nearby blackberry varieties with overlapping bloom times.

    Key Features:

    • Huge, elongated berries—up to 2 inches long

    • Rich, sweet flavor with firm texture

    • High-yielding, early-to mid season ripening

    • Thornless canes for easier harvesting

    • Requires trellising; vigorous trailing growth habit

    • Disease-resistant and productive

    • Self-fertile; benefits from cross-pollination

‘Columbia Giant’ is a standout blackberry variety for those seeking big, flavorful fruit and a reliable, thornless plant for backyard or small-scale production.
