July & Lavender Dreams

This month has been all about trying to keep up with the weeds. I'm definitely losing the battle, but biting into a warm, ripe strawberry at sunset makes it all worth it.

The catmint got a trim to encourage another flush of blooms later this summer, and the lavender, gaura, and dahlias are at their peak! We're getting ready to distill the lavender into hydrosol, and the girls have been dreaming up plans for their own lavender farm and store. I absolutely love their entrepreneurial spirit!

Our valley is home to a wonderful lavender trail. Each June and into early July, several lavender farms throughout the Applegate Valley open their fields to visitors. You can wander through rows of fragrant blooms while sipping lavender lemonade, then stop into quaint farm shops for every lavender product you can imagine.

Our little valley is truly a gem, nestled along the Applegate River and surrounded by rolling hills, with a winery for just about every summer weekend. If you're ever looking for a peaceful getaway, it's well worth a visit.

Billy adding some lavender around the fence. I found some 'Rosea' & 'Phenomenal' that were not good enough quality to ship, so they found a home here to complete the lavender hedge around the garden. We have had this weed cloth down for a few months to kill back the grass before planting.

Verbena, foxglove, wall germander. I lined the beds in the veggie garden with germander and love it so much as an alternative to boxwood. I started them from seed last year, so this is their second summer. The pollinators love them too!

Our beloved kale! Doubled what we grew last year because we love to eat it so much. Tried this recipe and it's been our go to for lunches.
