    DESCRIPTION

Ludwig Spaeth is a classic French lilac cultivar known for its richly colored, deep reddish-purple blooms and strong, sweet fragrance. Blooming in late spring, it produces long, narrow panicles packed with single florets that open from dark buds, making it one of the most vibrantly colored lilacs available. Its bloom time extends the lilac season and provides a stunning contrast to paler varieties in the landscape.

This upright, multi-stemmed shrub grows 8 to 10 feet tall and 6 to 8 feet wide, making it an excellent choice for hedging, screening, or as a bold focal point. Like other Syringa vulgaris cultivars, it thrives in full sun and well-drained, neutral to slightly alkaline soil. It’s cold-hardy and deer-resistant, and light pruning after bloom helps maintain shape and vigor.

    Key Features:

    • Deep reddish-purple, strongly fragrant blooms

    • Blooms in late spring, extending lilac season

    • Upright growth: 8–10 ft. tall, 6–8 ft. wide

    • Excellent for hedges, borders, and specimen planting

    • Attracts pollinators and makes superb cut flowers

    • Hardy in USDA Zones 3–7

    • Thrives in full sun with well-drained soil

With its bold color, heady fragrance, and reliable performance, Ludwig Spaeth Lilac is a timeless choice for classic gardens and lilac enthusiasts.

    Perfect healthy plant

Received my lilac plants very expediently and in great condition. I just reported all 4 in larger containers and will put them in the ground in early spring. They are doing extremely well so far! I’ve never had a disappointment of any plant purchased from the Greenhouse! My number 1 go to place!
