DESCRIPTION

Katherine Havemeyer is a classic French hybrid lilac known for its large, double lavender-pink blooms and strong, sweet fragrance. The densely packed panicles appear in mid to late spring, opening from deep purple buds to reveal soft lavender double florets with a silvery-pink sheen—creating a lush, two-toned effect that’s both elegant and eye-catching.

This deciduous shrub has a strong, upright form and typically grows 10 to 12 feet tall and 6 to 8 feet wide. It makes a beautiful specimen plant, flowering hedge, or focal point in a spring garden. Like most French lilacs, it thrives in full sun and well-drained, neutral to slightly alkaline soil, and it benefits from light pruning immediately after bloom to encourage robust flowering the following year.

My order of the Katherine Havenmeyer Lilac was a successful purchase. My lilac arrived in perfect condition and is doing very well now that it's been planted. I can't wait for it to bloom in the future. The root starter was also a good purchase, as the plants we used it on seem to be doing very well. I am very happy with my purchase.

Ordered 6/4/25, received 6/12. I took a few days to get it in the soil and situated, but it was a very healthy, small plant that arrived and transplanted without incident. Survived in a large planter outdoors during a fairly harsh, N. Georgia winter (zone 8) where temps were in the negatives for extended periods, then in the single digits for additional extended periods. VERY minimal damage to the shrub, to my surprise. When it came out of dormancy, only a few tips (a couple centimeters at most) were dead. Those were carefully trimmed from the plant and we are back to looking lush, green and full. The plant itself has not grown much in size beyond a couple inches, but it’s filled out quite nicely. Hoping to watch it grow more this year as it gets pampered in my garden. High quality specimen with excellent hardiness so far. Would highly recommend this variety and seller.
