    DESCRIPTION

Chicago Hardy Fig is a cold-tolerant fig variety prized for its sweet, richly flavored fruit and dependable performance in cooler climates. It produces medium-sized, mahogany-purple figs with a deep strawberry-red interior strawberry, ripening in late summer through early fall. Has sweet, berry-like flavor, with hints of cherry, raspberry and blueberry. The fruit is excellent for fresh eating, drying, or preserves.

This deciduous shrub can be grown as a large bush or small tree, typically reaching 10 to 15 feet tall in warmer zones, but often kept smaller in colder areas where it may die back and regrow from the roots. Despite this, it reliably fruits on new growth, making it well-suited to USDA Zones 6–10 with winter protection in colder regions.

Chicago Hardy prefers full sun and well-drained soil, and once established, it is drought-tolerant and low maintenance. It can be grown in the ground or in containers and is self-pollinating, requiring no other fig for fruit production.

    Key Features:

    • Medium-sized, sweet mahogany-purple fruit with red flesh

    • Ripens in late summer to early fall

    • Cold-hardy to Zone 6

    • Grows 10–15 ft. tall (smaller in cold climates or containers)

    • Fruits on new wood—reliable even after winter dieback

    • Self-pollinating; no pollinator needed

Chicago Hardy Fig offers gardeners in cooler regions a chance to enjoy homegrown figs with minimal effort and excellent flavor.

    SHIPPING DETAILS

    Shipping Methods

Orders will be shipped via either UPS Ground or FedEx Home Delivery.

Orders are generally in route for 2-5 business days (depending on where you live).

We are sticklers about packaging and shipping your order in a way that guarantees healthy plants upon arrival. If plants are damaged on arrival, just let us know and we'll send you new ones or offer a full refund.

All of our plants are container grown and shipped with the soil and roots fully intact. We DO NOT ship your plants bare-root. Being shipped as a containered plant greatly reduces the risk of the plant not surviving the transit to your home.
